Toshido MMA Dominates at BFL 21!

It was another dominant performance by local club Toshido MMA this past weekend at Battlefield Fight League 21 held at the Penticton Convention Centre. Toshido MMA had two team members compete and both walked away with second round stoppages.
Kevin Kellerman, at age 17, made the most out of his Mixed Martial Arts debut. The fight quickly made its way to the ground, where Kellerman’s superior Jiu-Jitsu technique forced his opponent, Colin Butts, to submit by way of Triangle Choke at the 1:21 mark of Round 2.
After a lengthy layoff, Team Toshido’s Jake Macdonald, came back with a vengeance. Despite having to move up from his natural weightclass at 155 lbs to fight his opponent John Dubois at 185 lbs, Macdonald punished Dubois with knees stopping the durable fighter by way of TKO just 21 seconds into Round 2.
“This was another fantastic night for Team Toshido” stated head coach David Lea. “The success we are having inside the cage just makes our team work harder.”
This was just the start of a busy month for Team Toshido. Team Toshido member and Ultimate Fighter star, Michael Hill is fighting in Calgary on March 15th for the AFC, Team Toshido veteran Mike Adams is fighting for the AFC 135 lbs World Title in Winnipeg on March 22, and Sarah “Cheesecake” Moras is fighting in Quebec at Wreck MMA on March 28th.
Toshido MMA
Undefeated at Battlefield 19!
Dwyer brings home the Belt!

It may have been called Battlefield 19 but
it became known as Team Toshido's night earlier this month at the South
Okanagan Events Centre as the Kelowna based mixed martial arts club
dominated a night of MMA in Penticton.
Five fighters from Toshido Mixed Martial Arts in Kelowna competee at
Battlefield Fight League (BFL 19), the most ever fighters from Toshido to
compete on the same card in the club's 14 year history.
Despite the enormous pressure, Team Toshido went on to completely dominate
the competition going undefeated in all five bouts, and winning the BFL
Professional Welterweight World Title to top off the evening.
“This will be a night that I will always remember," stated an overjoyed
David Lea, head coach of Toshido MMA. “Everyone performed perfectly and
showcased the mixed martial arts talent that we have coming out of Kelowna.
The icing on top came when Matt Dwyer became the undisputed BFL Professional
Welterweight World Champion.”
Dwyer follows a long legacy of champions to come out of the Toshido MMA gym
including current UFC star Rory MacDonald who won the KOTC Professional
National and World titles while still in his teens.
Dwyer defeated Ryan Chiappe via TKO at 4:37 of the first round to win the
BFL Professional Welterweight World Championship, capping off a great night
by Kelowna fighters.
Along with Dwyer claiming the Battlefield welterweight title, other results
included:
•Team Toshido’s Cuba Echegoyen won his MMA debut against Bryce Kilpatrick
via ankle lock at 2:20 of round one.
•Team Toshido’s Cleve Bentley defeated Brandon Shorter by unanimous
decision.
•Team Toshido’s Joe Pirrotta stopped Matt Shannon via armbar at 1:58 of
round 1.
•Team Toshido’s Mike Adams increased his professional MMA record to 7-1 by
defeating American Roy Bradshaw via side choke at just 1:39 of the first
round of their bout.
Meanwhile Toshido MMA's youngest member, fifteen-year-old Elijah Goulding is
making his MMA debut this weekend at BFL 20 in Vancouver.
Toshido MMA Alumni, Rory MacDonald, Dominates MMA Legend BJ Penn at UFC on FOX 5!

Longtime member of Toshido MMA, now training at Tristar in Montreal, Rory MacDonald, once again showed why he is one of the top welterweights on the planet. Rory put on a 3 round clinic, battering Penn for the entire bout, in what became a lopsided Unanimous decision victory for Rory!
Team Toshido's Sarah Moras Dominates at AFC!

This past weekend Sarah "Cheesecake" Moras took just 93 seconds to submit BJJ Brown Belt Christina Barry by armlock at the AFC, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This win establishes Sarah as one of the top professional female fighters in the country.
Team Toshido's Mike Hill Signed to Ultimate Fighter!

Mike Hill is the newest Team Toshido member to work with the UFC! Mike Hill has been in the TUF Fighter House since July down in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the filming of The Ultimate Fighter 16. TUF 16 will start airing on Friday September 14th, on FX!
